Bernard Thomas Obituary

Bernard Thomas slipped away before sunset Thursday, June 10, 2021 at Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, NJ. 

 

He was the son of the late Rev. Tyler Taylor Thomas and Carrie Archer Thomas of Elizabeth, NJ, and former husband of the late Dr. Khmbrly Howard.

 

A native and lifelong resident of Elizabeth, NJ, Bernard received a public education in the Union County School District, and was an active member of his community serving for community housing security. He also actively volunteered his time with Alcoholics Anonymous where he took great pride in being a Sponsor to help support the recovery of many others. He enjoyed playing cards, spending time with his siblings, and offering a helping hand to those in need whenever he could. Bernard will affectionately be known for his charming, witty personality and his ability to make one laugh and brighten their day.

 

Bernard is survived by his two sons, Bernard Kenyatta (BJ) Montgomery of Scotch Plains, NJ and Kenya D. Montgomery (Tammy) of Cary, NC, stepchildren, Tammie Montgomery, Earl Lamont Montgomery (Mildred), Chad Montgomery, all of NJ, brother, Matt Thomas of Stroudsburg, PA, sister, Helen Ferrar, East Orange, NJ, and brother of the late Covina Jenkins, Naomi Thomas, Ruby Thorne, Willie Mae Charles, Hattie Bingham, Tyler T. Thomas, Jr. and Alexander Thomas. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Kennedy, Savanna, and Payton Montgomery, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous neighborhood friends.

 

Memorial services will be held at Nesbitt Funeral Home, in Elizabeth, NJ on Thursday, June 17th at 10:00 am.
