On September 19, 1954, Melvin and Maxine Taylor welcomed Eric Michael Taylor into the world. He attended the Elizabeth public school system and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1972, Michael furthered his education at Cheyney University in Pennsylvania and Rutgers in New Jersey. He got to travel and see some of the world when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1981. He was honorably discharged in 1984.
Nicknamed “Hawk,” Michael was an all-around good guy. He settled in the D.C./Maryland area and made a comfortable living for many years while remaining a bachelor. His family looked forward to his annual Thanksgiving visits back to NJ. He had to stop by Tom and Jerry’s hot dog spot whenever he came to town. He was particularly fond of family, Yankee baseball, good food, “Everybody Loves Raymond,” and voluptuous women.
Michael loved the Lord and accepted him as his Savior while living in Maryland. Upon his return to New Jersey, faithfully attended Trinity Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church in Newark until illness rendered him confined to a nursing home. Even with health challenges, Michael had a ready smile.
On February 4th, 2021, Eric Michael Taylor took his final rest following years of incapacity. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Taylor and Maxine Roberts; his step-father, Eddie Roberts; and his eldest sister, Norma Jean Stewart. He will live on in the hearts of his siblings, James (Karen) Peterson, Marie Taylor, and Edward (Nicole) Roberts and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Known for his indescribable and contagious laugh, the funny memories are plentiful and do well to lend comfort amidst the sorrow. Michael was loved by everyone and he is already missed.
