Gregory Tanner Obituary

Gregory Raheem Tanner 37 formerly of New Jersey departed this life on May 8, 2022 in Dallas, TX. A celebration of his life will be held on  Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11:00am at the Union Baptist Church 1088 East Grand Street Elizabeth, NJ.Visitation 10:00am until time of service. Arrangements are in the loving care of the Nesbitt Funeral Home 165 Madison Avenue Elizabeth, NJ.

Mr. Tanner leaves a loving family and dear friends to cherish his memory.

 

Gregory Raheem Tanner was born on February 5, 1985, to the late Al Jolson Tanner Jr. and Josephine Marie (Dodd) Tanner. Gregory was the 4th of five children.

Gregory affectionately known as Greg, Rah, or TT was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ where he received his education in the public school system. During his school years, Greg proved to be quite the athlete participating in many sporting activities, such as baseball winning a little league world series as a member of the Cincinnati Reds, and football (#78) winning football championships in 2000 and 2001 with Elizabeth Minuteman.

After graduating from Elizabeth High School in 2003 Greg attended Kean University in Union NJ to study physical education, teaching, and coaching. A few years later Greg received a position with Vonage in 2008 where his intelligence and commitment to excellence afforded him the opportunity to travel and train people across the world such as in Costa Rica and the Philippines. Relocating to Texas Greg emerged himself At City Electric Supply gaining notoriety and promotions as a team leader within the firm.

Greg met the love of his life Shaniqua “Sha” Adair in 2010 where they will then spend the next 12 years loving each other showing a “Cowboys” and “Giants” fan can not only co-exist but flourish while raising their amazing son Zy’hon Adair.

A gentle giant Greg was a big guy with a huge heart who would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. Whoever met Greg would instantly connect with him because of his wonderful personality.

Greg enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Greg was known for his love for sports, especially Football. Greg was a Dallas Cowboy fan like no other! His father Big Al was a musician, which led to his love and affinity for music. Greg was a loving father, husband, brother, son, friend, cousin, uncle, nephew, and just an all-around great Man.

Gregory Raheem Tanner was called home on Sunday, May 8, 2022. He was predeceased by his brother Al Jolson Tanner III, and sister Regina Underwood.

Gregory leaves to cherish his memory, his wife and son Shaniqua Adair, and Zy’hon Adair: Four brothers and one sister: Jolson Rodnell Underwood, Jason Matthew Dodd, (Ebony Dodd), Kiera Underwood, Kristopher Rogers, (Rachel Rogers), Isaiah Underwood; 4 nieces, 6 nephews, and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and friends
