James Tucker Sr. Obituary

James Tucker Sr. 89 of Elizabeth, NJ departed this life on life on March 17, 2022. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022, at 10:00am at the New Zion Baptist Church 800 Flora Street Elizabeth, NJ. Visitation 9:00am until time of service. Arrangements are in the loving care of the Nesbitt Funeral Home 165 Madison Avenue Elizabeth, NJ.

 

James Tucker, Sr. was born on January 19,1933 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to the late Thomas and Leila Fletcher Tucker.

James attended the Elizabeth public schools. In 1952, James joined the United States Airforce where he worked as a supply clerk. He was assigned to Pope Airforce Base in Fayetteville, North Carolina and Ramey Air Base Puerto Rico. While in the Service He also was able to play on the Air Forces baseball team. James received an Honorable Discharge in 1956.

After Serving in the USAF, James returned home to Elizabeth, New Jersey. James married the love of his life, Selena Kennedy on May 4th, 1958, and from their union they were blessed with 3 children, James Jr., Audrey and Laurence.

He then became employed by the United States Postal Service as a mail handler and was a dedicated employee for 43 years. 

Knowing without Christ he could do nothing, James Accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Personal Savior.

James Loved all sports but most of all Baseball and Softball. He played on a few local softball teams playing 2nd base or outfield. He enjoyed playing cards like solitaire and crossword puzzles from the newspaper. He also enjoyed going to the park or down to Elizabeth Port to sit in the car and listen to some good oldie but goodie music from the radio or read the paper. He would always look forward to going to the park to join family and friends for the annual GOOD OLD DAYS summer cook out.

James decided to take on a new sport, and that was Bowling, which he became outstanding bowler. He also enjoyed spending time with family, especially with his grandchildren, who he loved dearly.

James was a man who believed that everyone should do their best to do a good day of honest work everyday. He was a man with good wisdom, knowledge and was always there to support you whenever you needed his advice or suggestions. He was the Best person you would want to know. James was a great husband to his wife and a super role model to his children and grandchildren. He provided for all of us.

James was preceded in death by his loving wife Selena of 63 years, his parents Leila and Thomas Tucker, his beloved siblings, Thomas Tucker, Martha Dixon (Abraham), Josephine Tucker, Katherine Stapleton (Frank) and Helen Brown (Matthew). A son-in-law Ernest Croom.

He leaves to cherish loving memories, his beloved children, James Tucker, Jr. (wife Cynthia) of Newport News, Virginia, Audrey Tucker Croom of Elizabeth, New Jersey and Laurence Tucker of Elizabeth, New Jersey; two brothers, George Tucker (Maryann) and Isaac Tucker (Joyce); 10 grandchildren Latisha, Walida, Wadiya, Jason, Quinta, Brianna, Raissa, Lashonda, Brittany, and Sheena; 9 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Catherine Kennedy; 4 brothers-in-law, Francis Kennedy, Roland Kennedy, Clyde Kennedy, Gilbert Kennedy; and a host of  nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear  friends.
