Jeff Davis Obituary

Jeff Davis (Jefferson Jr.) a longtime resident of Roselle, New Jersey departed from this life Saturday
December 31, 2022, peacefully at home.

Born in Early Branch, South Carolina on January 24, 1926, to the late Jefferson Sr. and Martha Davis. Jeff
was educated in Hampton County School District and also obtained his GED in the 60’s here in New
Jersey.

Jeff entered the U.S. Navy on active duty in World War II serving on the Medical Ship USS Comfort. After
he was honorably discharged from the military he moved to New Jersey and worked at U.S. Metal in
Carteret as a Journeymen and certified to perform all trades at U.S. Metal. He earned his Master Boiler
License, as well a Certificate of Completion at Craft Auto Body Repair School in Jersey City.

Soon after arriving in New Jersey Jeff met and married Ella Mae Holmes on July 11, 1948 and were
married for 53 years. Jeff joined Liberty Baptist Church where his wife held her membership and later
became Deacon & Deaconess Davis working diligently with Rev. T.T. Thomas. Sometime after Rev.
Thomas passed away Jeff changed his membership to Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where he
served diligently as a deacon for many years until his health began to decline.

Dad and Mom loved the Lord and every Sunday morning before breakfast we would gather in the living
room where Dad would have his podium with the huge family bible on it, Mom would sing and read
scripture and Dad would give a sermonette and us kids were sitting on the sofa listening and smelling
food, then we’d get on our knees in prayer waiting for the AMEN so we could have breakfast and then
off to Sunday School and Church. This family ritual sticks in our mind today.

Dad was a lover of dogs and our favorite was Midnight a black german shepherd. Dad’s other hobbies
were fishing, and hunting, and he loved gardening, so he had a huge garden in the backyard and shared its
bounty with neighbors. Dad belonged to several bowling leagues and won many trophies and because
of his passion for bowling, he enjoyed introducing his children and grandchildren to the sport. Baseball
was a family sport and on Saturdays, dad would load us kids in the back of his 1959 Blue Dodge 100 pick
up truck which still exist today and off to Warinanco Park we went where he and his team of cousins
and friends played against other teams in the area. The trips to Newark and Union drive-in movies, Oh
such good memories!

After dad retired from U.S. Metal he used his trade skills to help so many people which he loved to do
and would not charge.

Jeff was predeceased by his parents Jefferson and Martha Davis, his wife Ella Mae 0f 53 years married,
his: brothers Amos, Benjamin, Joe A. and sisters: Mary Dunbar, Lucille Morrell, Rosella Ellis, Anna Mae
Williams, Martha Wiggins. Jeff is survived by his brother Joe Louis (Luvenia), his children Gwendolyn Y.
Estrada, Jeffrey J. (Delores), Linda M. Chester (Dean) Michele Knowlin (Walter), Jonathan L., William
(Percina), his grandchildren Da’Metria, Dyia, Tamyika, Eric, Shawn, Jameel, Amber, Hanan, Jaedon, and 9
great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
