Shirley Virgil Obituary

Shirley Virgil was born in Newark, NJ on April 8, 1934, the oldest daughter of the late Sally
Holmes and Nathanial Johnson. Shirley was called Bootsy by her family and friends. Shirley
was educated in the Newark Public School System.

Shirley leaves to mourn her passing three daughters, Pamela and Lydia Davis and Tracy
Taylor, her grandchildren, Akil, Faheem, Najah and Shereem Taylor and her two great
grandsons, Akil Jr. and Elijah. .Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings, her Brothers,
Nathaniel (Nate) Alvin (Baby), Leon, Edward, Melvin (Malik) and her Sisters, Bernice, Alinda
(Linda) and Delores.

Our Mother really enjoyed living and she had such a great and infectious laugh. Fiercely loyal,
our Mother, was loved by her nieces, nephews, cousins, sister-in-laws, her friends and our
friends.

Our Mother introduced us to so many things as we were growing up, art of socializing,
dining out, shopping (for good clothes and shoes). Passionate about music, she would dress us
up and we would go to the Apollo, our love of music is just one of the many things we inherited
from her.
